Did you know that having any moisture present within the hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils within your machinery can have a degrading and negative effect on performance and longevity of life? But, how do you know if moisture is present? Well the answer to this question is that there are a number of ways but the majority are expensive and difficult to carry out and this is where the crackle test can help.
What is a crackle test?
A crackle test is a simple method of discovering whether water is present within your hydraulic fluids and lubricating oils. By raising the plate temperature to 160C and violently agitating the oil sample, within a few seconds if no crackling or vapour bubbles are present then no free water is present.
There are some limitations to this approach, however, through scientific research the hot plate crackle test has proven to be reliable and effective time and time again.
